Matriarch

from $950.00

This fine art photography piece, part of my African wildlife photography collection, was captured in the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya. The photograph beautifully showcases the role of the matriarch, the oldest and largest female cow, who leads the elephant herd with wisdom and experience. As they travel, daughters and calves follow her lead, walking in single file behind her, reflecting the strong social bonds within the herd.

In contrast, bull elephants, the males, typically do not roam with the herd, preferring a more solitary existence once they reach maturity. This photograph not only captures the majestic presence of these magnificent creatures but also highlights the intricate social structures that define their lives. Through this work, I aim to convey the beauty, complexity, and importance of preserving these remarkable animals and their natural habitats.

  • All photos are signed limited edition prints: M 50 : L 25 : XL 15

  • Print sizes in the drop-down menu refer to the image size only

  • Each photograph has a 2-inch (5cm) white border surrounding the image

  • Need more info, head to Details & Frequently Asked Questions on the menu bar in INFO
